Irish singer-songwriter Somebody’s Child has released his third track ‘Distance’, a vibrant indie-rock number with catchy pop hooks, feel-good melodies and anthemic sing-along moments. The Dubliners style is nostalgic of those ‘00s indie bands we still all pine for, which makes it a perfect listen for the festival-filled summer. As well as giving a nod to the recent sonic past, ‘Distance’ is also an emotional retrospect as indicated by the take-home line “that’s just what happens to us, / We try to hard to find the love that we have left behind.” As this emerging Irish talent clarifies: “Distance to me brings out that feeling young love and the innocence that goes with it that comes with it. It is a nostalgic adventure into past feelings of joy that we will chase for the rest of our lives.” It’s hard to resist turning up the volume on this one, so go right ahead, we’re sure the neighbours won’t mind. - Hannah Thacker
